Designing Awards Around an Art Form
Across two distinct projects, Crystal Arc developed recognition pieces aligned with difference facets of the Academy’s mission and ceremonial needs. While the forms differed, both projects shared a common design approach, focused on balance, proportion, and cultural sensitivity, ensuring that each piece felth considered, intentional, and appropriate to its context.
All projects were designed and produced fully in-house at Crystal Arc, allowing complete control over materials, proportions, surface quality, and finishing.
Calligraphy-Led Awards
One project centred on calligraphy-driven awards, using bold Arabic typography as the primary design element. Rather than treating text as an applied graphic, the calligraphy became the object itself.
Material contrast and controlled finishes were used to give the script visual weight and presence, allowing the piece to feel ceremonial without becoming ornate. The result was an award that celebrated cultural expression with confidence and clarity.
The Piano-Inspired Sculptural Award
The second project took a more sculptural direction, drawing inspiration from music and performance. Rather than replicating a piano literally, the piece was developed as an abstract interpretation, using flowing curves and layered forms to suggest rhythm, movement, and sound.
Warm-toned materials and wood textures were selected to reference the tactility and craftsmanship of classical instruments, while precision-cut details and refined edges ensured the piece remained contemporary and gallery-worthy. The structure was carefully engineered to feel grounded and substantial in hand, reinforcing its role as a serious artistic award.
Engraving and Hand-Finishing
Material choice, surface refinement, and proportion were treated with particular care across both projects. Each piece progressed through a controlled in-house process including fabrication, finishing, engraving, and custom presentation preparation.
Attention was given to how each award would be handled, viewed on stage, and displayed over time, ensuring long-term relevance rather than short-lived visual impact.
An Award That Reads as Artwork
Together, these projects form a cohesive body of work that reflects Fujairah Fine Arts Academy’s commitment to artistic excellence and cultural integrity. The awards demonstrate Crystal Arc’s ability to translate creative disciplines, music, calligraphy, and visual art, into physical forms that feel thoughtful, respectful, and enduring.
