An Institutional Partnership
Abu Dhabi Customs is a key government authority responsible for regulating trade, safeguarding borders, and supporting the UAE’s economic resilience. As an institution operating at a national and international level, its initiatives demand clarity, authority, and disciplined execution.
Crystal Arc partnered with Abu Dhabi Customs to create a commemorative award that reflected this institutional strength, while remaining refined, contemporary, and purpose-driven in its expression.
Designing for Government Protocol
The project was developed for a strategic launch event, with the design approach rooted directly in the organisation’s visual identity. Rather than relying on overt branding, the award was conceived to feel naturally aligned with the organisation through form, proportion, and color.
The geometric form with a deliberate forward tilt, symbolises progress, governance, and controlled momentum. The layered structure and restrained angles were designed to echo the brand’s structured language, while the colour palette was carefully matched to the brand to create immediate visual alignment without excessive visual effect. Arabic typography was integrated with precision, ensuring the piece maintained formality and cultural relevance.
The Piece in Focus
The award was designed as a confident, architectural object. Its solid stance and clean geometry give it authority when presented, while subtle shifts in angle and layering introduce depth without softening the overall discipline of the form.
Balance and proportion were carefully considered so the piece feels stable and substantial in hand, reinforcing its role as a formal recognition object rather than a purely decorative piece.
Materials and Craft
Material selection and craftsmanship were central to the execution. Solid construction, clean surfaces, and crisp edges were prioritised to convey permanence and authority, while subtle contrasts between the base and upper form added depth and balance. The piece was designed to feel stable and substantial when handled, reinforcing its role as a formal recognition object rather than a decorative item.
Each surface, and junction was refined to ensure consistency, durability, and clarity, supporting the piece’s role within an official government context.
In-House Production and Presentation
The award was designed and produced fully in-house at Crystal Arc, including manufacturing, finishing, engraving, and custom presentation boxing. This end-to-end control ensured accuracy, consistency, and adherence to institutional standards throughout the process.
